No. Transcend Broadband utlizes state-of-the-art commercial grade point to multi point wireless equipment that operates in the 5GHz frequency range. WiFi equipment operates in the 2.4GHz frequency range, making it impossible for WiFi equipment to work with or interfere with our service. Transcend Broadband wireless service is a professionally installed, fixed wireless, always on, high speed broadband Internet connection.
Is Transcend Broadband wireless Internet service as reliable as a broadband cable, DSL, or dial-up Internet connection?
Absolutely! And in most cases more relilable. With Transcend Broadband you'll enjoy an always-on connection that never ties up your phone line.
How does the speed of Transcend Broadband's wireless Internet service compare to DSL, cable and dial-up?
Transcend Broadband currently offers wireless Internet service at speeds up to 4Mbps to the home and up to 30Mbps to the business community.
What technology does Transcend Broadband wireless use?
Transcend Broadband wireless uses state-of-the-art OFDM wireless technology to transmit signals to and from your location. This delivers an "Always On" high speed Internet connection available for use at your convenience.
What is OFDM?
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a multi-carrier modulation technique. It achieves high speed data rates, prevents interference, and overcomes multi-path signals. It also allows communications in areas where non-line-of-sight (NLOS) is a limiting factor for other wireless deployments. Although OFDM technology is not new, it is an innovative technique that has recently become commercially available in the US.
What issues could impact my ability to receive Transcend Broadband wireless signals?
You must be within the Transcend Broadband wireless coverage area to receive a our wireless signal. It is possible to be within the coverage area but not be able to receive a signal due to certain types of physical obstructions such as large buildings or heavy foliage.
How secure is the Transcend Broadband wireless connection?
Your Transcend Broadband wireless Internet connection is very secure, and is comparable to any land based connection such as DSL, cable, or T-1 lines. We only deploy commercial grade technology that is not susceptible to outside intrusion, and includes additional technologies such as encryption and VLANs.
Every customer's radio is configured to only talk to one of our network access points on a very specific frequency configured by us. It will not talk to any other customer's radio or another manufacturer's radio.
Contact your Transcend Broadband local office if additional security is necessary.
What is a VLAN?
A VLAN is a "Virtual Local Area Network". A VLAN may include individual stations that can communicate with each other, but they cannot communicate with any stations belonging to different VLANs or not belonging to any VLANs. Transcend Broadband only allows your computer, firewall, router, or other proxy devices to communicate with a specified access point via your wireless connection.
Can all the computers on my network be online simultaneously sharing the bandwidth of my Transcend Broadband wireless connection?
Using a multi point or wireless (WiFi) router, a firewall, or other type of proxy device, multiple users can be online at the same time. Everyone on your network will experience the same broadband connection speed.
Does Transcend Broadband have bandwidth restrictions?
There is no defined limit to how much bandwidth you can use, however use of the service is subject to the plan you sign up for and the acceptable use policy posted on this website. Transcend Broadband offers several different service plans, each with bandwidth designed to match your needs.
What is an IP address?
Every computer that communicates over the Internet is assigned an Internet Protocol (IP) address that uniquely identifies the device and distinguishes it from other computers on the Internet. These addresses are typically called “public IP addresses”. Since there is a finite number of public IP addresses, a couple of ranges of private IP addresses have been designated and are used for creating private networks and sharing the public ip address space.
What is the difference between static and dynamic IP addresses?
A static IP address is an IP address that is assigned to a device manually and is intended to be its permanent address on the private network or Internet. Dynamic IP addressing, or DHCP, is an automatic way to manage IP addresses and may provide a different IP address each time you connect to the network or Internet.
Can I get a Static IP address with my Transcend Broadband wireless connection?
All Transcend Broadband business customers receive their own static IP address included with their service. Residential customers can obtain a static IP address for an additional cost. Please send an email or call your local sales office for more information.
Can I get more than one static IP address with my Transcend Broadband wireless connection?
Yes, for an additional monthly fee.
What is Broadband Telephone Service?
Broadband Telephone Service is telephone service that operates over your broadband Internet connection instead of the typical copper line from your local telephone company. It utlizes a packet based protocol instead of the telephone company's switch based protocol.
What equipment do I need to use Broadband Telephone Service?
You will need a broadband Internet connection, preferrably a Transcend Broadband Internet connection, and a normal analog telephone. We will provide you with an adapter that connects your telephone to your broadband Internet connection.
Can I transfer my existing telephone number to Transcend Broadband?
Yes, we do port (transfer) telephone numbers from other service providers. In order for us to be able to port numbers from other providers you will need to fill out the Letter of Authorization form giving us permission to port your telephone number. Also, you must stay connected with your current telephone service to hold the number you want ported. On average, this process may take 5-10 business days, however it can take longer. You will be assigned a temporary number, which will then be replaced once your desired number has been ported. During this time, you may be paying two phone bills at one time.
Will Transcend Broadband contact my current telephone company to cancel my service with them?
No, only you can cancel your current telphone service. We will either assign you a new telephone number or port your current telephone number that will work over your broadband Internet connection, but you will be responsible for making any changes to your existing telephone service, if you so desire. You can use your Transcend Broadband number and your legacy telephone service at the same time, if you wish.
Can I use your telephone service with a dial up Internet connection?
No, you will not be able to use it with a dial up connection as the service requires more bandwidth (higher speed) than your dial up service can provide. We recommend a minimum connection speed of 1Mbps to ensure the highest quality service.
Is the adaptor I need to use your service included in the service plans?
Yes, it is included as part of the activation fee and remains the property of Transcend Broadband. There is no need to sell the adapter as it can only be used with Transcend's service.
Does Transcend's telephone service support FAX machines, Modems, TIVO boxes, or Satelite TV boxes?
Due to inherent difficulties with Internet technology today, faxing is not 100% reliable. Because of this, Transcend Broadband recommends it not be used as a primary fax line. However, Transcend is currently developing a solution that will make faxing as reliable as your standard phone line.
This service does not support TIVO, Satelite TV, home security systems, or any other application that uses a dial up modem.
Can a cellular telephone number be ported?
No, we cannot port cellular telephone numbers.
